Fatalities as Renewed Unrest Strikes Ethiopia's Oromia Region

Fatal protests flared in Ethiopia’s Oromia region, a local official said, with Deutsche Welle reporting 10 people were killed in confrontations with security forces in a part of the Horn of Africa country that’s seen two years of sporadic demonstrations.
“Lives were lost and people were wounded” around Ambo, a town about 130 kilometers (80 miles) west of Addis Ababa, the capital, Oromia regional spokesperson Addisu Arega said on his Facebook page, without giving more details. DW’s Amharic-language service cited Ambo’s communications head, Gadisa Desalegn, as saying that 10 people were shot dead by paramilitary forces sent to the town.
