Italy pledged to finance a study for the construction of a new railway line linking Ethiopia to the Red Sea nation of Eritrea, Fana Broadcasting Corp, reported.
The project from the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to the Eritrean port of Massawa would provide the landlocked Horn of Africa nation with a second rail link to the Red Sea, the Ethiopian ruling party-funded news agency said. It cited talks Monday between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his Italian counterpart, Giuseppe Conte.
