Ethiopia’s ruling party will meet March 11 in a prelude to the election of a new prime minister, Fana Broadcasting Corp. reported.
The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front is preparing to appoint a successor to Hailemariam Desalegn, who resigned last month after failing to end two years of sporadic anti-government protests. The government has suspended the constitution as it seeks to reassert its authority in the restive Oromia region, where a general strike by opposition supporters is taking hold.
