At least six people were killed and 30 injured during protests in Ethiopia's Oromia region, a local official said, signaling renewed unrest in an area of the Horn of Africa country where demonstrations have flared over the past two years.
The protests took place Wednesday around Shashmane, about 250 kilometers (155 miles) south of the capital, Addis Ababa, and in East Hararge, in eastern Oromia, Oromia regional state spokesman Addisu Arega said on his Facebook page, citing the region's vice president, Abiy Ahmed. Addisu didn't answer three phone calls seeking comment.
