Shoring up regional support

After a period of defiant independence, Addis Ababa has now, belatedly perhaps, built strong diplomatic support behind the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. Before the joint meeting of the Ethiopian, Sudanese and Egyptian water ministers and top officials in Khartoum on 9 December to discuss the GERD, Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn had prepared the ground with a photo opportunity with Sudan’s President Omer Hassan Ahmed el Beshir.
